Christmas Joy

I just wanted to stop by real quick to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, happy holidays, safe and healthy New Year ... and I hope you get to spend that time with family and friends near and dear to you. I spoke to my Mum and brother last night - Christmas Eve here, but Christmas Day in Australia - and wished I was there, celebrating with them, but also knew that today would bring celebrations of my own, with my own family.

It's funny how traditions start - and what sticks with us from childhood through adulthood.  DS had been trying for some time (and I have to give him 10 out of 10 for perseverance) to convince us to let him open a present on Christmas Eve. Yeah, not going to happen.  He even tried to tell us that we always do that.  Um, which family do you belong to? Handed down from my father to me ... and now to my own family ... no presents Christmas Eve.  In fact, Christmas morning is even a bit of a 'to-do' - everyone must be showered, dressed (well, duh, can't have everyone running around naked, right?!), and have finished breakfast before any present is even moved from under the tree.  Oh, the torture! LOL  I remember my Dad and Mum eating their breakfast ever so slowly, teasing my brother and I - and then deciding that they wanted a second cup of tea or coffee, thereby extending their "breakfast".  Of course, I keep those traditions alive and well with DS.  He may be 18 y.o., but he's still very much a kid at heart, asking for a Christmas stocking, sneaking downstairs to grab it early, before anyone else was up. Well, ya know what?  Mum has a few tricks up her sleeve, too.  Sure, DS got the laptop he'd been wanting (in the end, we broke down and got it 'cause he needs something for school) ... but the best reaction came with the very first gift: a pair of elf slippers, complete with bells! LOL  See for yourself ...

And as we get ready to serve a holiday lunch, I will bid you all farewell with best wishes and a hearty Merry Christmas!

LOL. Great pictures of the slippers. We played a trick on Chris giving him Taylor Swift stuff--got exactly the reaction Bill was hoping for. Bill doesn't allow gifts on Christmas Eve either because of his family's tradition. I grew up always opening all gifts on Christmas Eve. Funny how different families carry out that tradition differently.

LOL about the pictures with the slippers. We played a trick on Christopher this year--gave him Taylor Swift stuff and got exactly the reaction that Bill was hoping for. Bill doesn't allow Christmas gifts on Christmas Eve either based on his family's tradition. We always opened all our gifts Christmas Eve so I wanted to do a hybrid--but never have. Funny how every family does that differently.
